Museum of Communism

The Museum of Communism starts off humourously, especially if one first browses through their hilarious mock-communist postcards and posters. The exhibit goes on to show aspects of daily life under communism, from propaganda at schools and work to empty shelves in stores, as the theme turns from idealistic dream to horrific reality. However, by far the most intense experience is watching the half hour or so film near the end of the exhibition. The video is clips from the Warsaw Pact invasion of 1968 and the Velvet Revolution of 1989 while Prague's rock stars turned political prisoners, The Plastic People of the Universe play in the background. After half an hour of watching people of all ages and sexes brutally beaten by riot police on camera, suddenly your own life won't seem so bad. Open Monday through Sunday 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.
