Svata Klara

This gem of a restaurant has been around since 1679 and its gimmick is that the whole thing is set underground in a natural cave. Not that it needs a gimmick though, as the food is good enough for it to operate without one: the menu is very large and varied, with a particularly broad range of game dishes. All the splendour is reflected in the prices however, making this a destination that may not be in the budget of most visitors.

Dining in Vienna

Svata Klara

"First I came was a business dinner with associates from Sandvik - CZ. So, years later I got the opportunity to take my wife there for a great dinner (6 course complete taste menu). Atmosphere is great, food was excellent and personnel were also very nice. I truly recommend it. It is great!! "

" having read other reviews we were a little nervous about this restaurant but we were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellant informative and polite. the food was deliciuos and we all enjoyed the atmosphere. we had no problems getting the a'la carte menu they were offered without asking . all in all can reccommend but this is not a cheap option, but worth every penny "

"We just returned from a trip to Eastern Europe, and our first stop was Prague. We went to this restaurant, and I thought I'd just give my opinion. We emailed the Svata Klara before we left on our trip to make the reservation and also to ask for directions from our hotel. We did not get a response about directions at all. Once we arrived, we were seated, and given a 6 course tasting menu. Since the items on that menu didn't quite appeal to all of us, we asked for an A La Carte menu, and the hostess seemed less than thrilled about it. The meal was actually pretty good, but be prepared, as there is a cover charge. We had read on Expedia that the restaurant was 50 feet underground, when in fact, it is 1 flight of stairs below the ground level. It was a beautiful restaurant, but don't feel the need to get dressed up for this dinner. We felt out of place dressed in jackets- no ties. The gentleman at the next table was wearing shorts. Again, the food was good, and the portions were generous, so for the price (considering the price of dining in Prague) the value was pretty good. There are some pretty exotic choices on this menu, so you may see Andrew Zimmerman at the next table. :) Overall, what left us with a luke warm feeling was the service. Although attentive, the staff seemed somewhat rude. Our waiter came back to our table 3 times to take our order, when clearly we were not finished looking at the menu - it is QUITE long. After being rushed through ordering however, we were given our first and second courses, and then everything went into slow-motion. I understand it is customary not to bring the bill until it is requested in Europe. However, we seemed to sit at the table for eons before dessert was offered. By the time we finally were given the chance to order dessert, I didn't even want it anymore. Which was good, because even though we ordered 2 desserts, only 1 was brought to our table. Maybe because it is a little outside the major city of Prague, there is an obvious language barrier. The staff seems a little bothered by your presence. Perhaps it is that they don't appreciate tourists, I can only guess. Overall, this was our impression. It's just the opinion of 1 party, take it or leave it. If I were staying in the heart of Prague again, I wouldn't bother making the trek to this restaurant given all the lovely choices right in the city center. "
