An anthology following the last 20 years of literary achievement in Prague has been published, including works by both Czech and expat writers. As the Prague Post writes, its original editor-in-chief Alan Levy once compared 1990s Prague with 1920s Paris, and while perhaps no Hemingways emerged, the last twenty years have proven worthy of detailed literary documentation.
By the mid-nineties the expat population had already exploded into several tens of thousands, creating a unique creative atmosphere cementing into popular culture the inescapable stereotype of the bohemian Prague expat. With the cost of living so low, in comparison to the US at least, Prague became a mecca for artists, musicians, and writers in particular.
The anthology, titled The Return of Kral Majales: Prague's International Literary Renaissance 1990-2010 An Anthology, was edited by Louis Armand, a professor at Charles University. The nearly 1000-pages cover both poetry and prose originally written in English or translated to English from the Czech language.
