Kino Svetozor

|
Opened on the same day as the Czech Republic's ascension to the European Union (coincidence? or big thinking?), Kino Svetozor is the premier art house cinema by the Old Town, and like most places in Prague, has a long history of its former life. Originally opened at the beginning of 1918, the cinema Svetozor soon changed into a cabaret. It returned to its original purpose in 1957 when it was rebuilt into a panoramatic cinema. In 1968 the famous Kino automat was moved here for a year and a half. Finally, after many years its original function is being fulfilled, as a premiere cinema of quality films in the center of Prague. Its two theatres show regular screenings of non-mainstream films, while its cafe is a great place to wax philosophical on the legends of Czech cinema with other film buffs. |
